Ted Birkhahn

Ted Birkhahn is a managing director at Peppercom, a strategic communications firm with offices in New York, San Francisco, Chicago and London. Peppercom's clients include a variety of mid- to large-size corporations including ITT Corporation, Honeywell, Marsh, Valspar, Steelcase and Unisys, among others.

Ted was recently selected by PR News as one of the industry's "15 to Watch," solidifying his position as a future thought leader in the field of public relations. His responsibilities include client service, new business development, digital marketing and overseeing the integration of Peppercom's three offices.

Recently, Ted has worked closely with a team of professionals in developing and launching Peppercom's digital marketing practice. The practice aims to help clients develop digital communications strategies to protect and extend their brands among key stakeholders. These strategies include corporate blog and podcast development, sentiment monitoring, blog relations, e-interactions, and digital partnerships, among others.

A published author, Ted also works with Peppercom's clients to develop and achieve unique and sustainable corporate positionings, thought leadership campaigns, co-branded partnerships with leading universities, trade associations and other like-minded companies, and breakthrough publicity with national technology, business and financial press.

Prior to joining Peppercom, Ted was the Press Secretary for the New York City Department of Buildings within Mayor Giuliani's Administration. His responsibilities included management of all agency press relations and development of the department's press materials. Additionally, Ted worked closely with Mayor Giuliani's press office in developing and implementing strategic media initiatives on all agency related crisis and community issues. Prior to working in Mayor Giuliani's administration, Ted worked as a reporter at WOR-AM Radio and as a production assistant at 1010 WINS Radio in New York City.

Ted is a member of the Counselors Academy, a professional interest section of the Public Relations Society of America, and serves on the public relations committee of the Association of Management Consulting Firms. He graduated from the University of Vermont with a B.A. in History. While attending the University of Vermont, Ted was an assistant producer for WMAQ-TV, a professionally run, local television station.

Ted currently resides in Westchester with his wife and two children.
